Summary: the Great War is over, and Harry, formerly Captain Henry Bridgeman, is learning how to be a civilian again. Then Sam, who was a corporal in Harry's company, comes back into his life, and he remembers things Harry would prefer to forget.

For [info]bb_shousetsu

Harry was immersed in these thoughts when his distracted gaze settled upon a face he recognised. A cluster of young men leaned up against a bench, heads close together. They were all in their shirtsleeves, collars undone, cigarettes clasped loosely between index and middle fingers. Harry froze, leg outstretched in the act of walking, A moment later, his foot landed and he hurried on. Heart pounding, he thought, Merciful God, let him not have seen me.

Sooo, me mirroring A Frequent Traveller's Guide to Jovan to this journal wasn't really working for several reasons... mostly to do with me being lazy, and not wanting to have three separate versions of the story (managing the eBook + the website version was bad enough). So... we're going to try something new, where I don't mirror the story to here.

I will, however, attempt to use this journal for my other great passion: reading other peeps' stories. LJ still has the best original fic community happening, so yeah. We'll see how that goes.

In the meantime, if anyone's interested, AFTGTJ has been plugging away: Book 2 started, and it sounds like this:
Valentin and Cassius, uncles to the empress of Jovan, are recalled from exile only to be sent to Ilas. The Ilasian princess Isobel has fled to her homeland after killing her Veribian husband, and the Veribians have sent an armada to exact revenge. Valentin once courted Isobel, but those days are long past, and now Ilas begs Jovan's help to resolve the standoff without bloodshed.

As one crisis is resolved another arises. Back in the capital, Valentin is haunted by the women he has loved, and takes up with a young girl from the docks, while Cassius loses himself in tactics and training. In the background lurks the dark figure of Magnus the Papirian, who holds in his hands the secret of the crime which led Valentin and Cassius to be banished eighteen years before. ( READ IT HERE )
In other original fic news, I discovered [info]s2b2, which is amazing, and [info]freece posted the greatest chapter of Captive Prince IN THE HISTORY OF EVER.

Welcome to Monsilys...

... capital of an Empire racked by intrigue, facing invasion from abroad and treason from within.

A young Empress recalls her two uncles to the capital, hoping their presence will help her keep her throne...

Cassius, a seasoned military commander with an impulsive temper and a decided preference for the company of men, and Valentin: politician, diplomat and spy.

Seventeen years ago, their brother the Emperor banished them to separate corners of the Empire for a crime few people know the truth of.

But now they're back.

A Frequent Traveller's Guide to Jovan

The adventures of Valentin and Cassius, who face traitors, tyrants, bandits, femmes fatale and manage to prevent roughly as many wars as they start -- all in service of the Empire. More or less.

Features: m/m and m/f sex of a fairly graphic nature, slavery, violence, politics

Since the death of their brother the Emperor Dolmus brought the royal brothers Valentin and Cassius back to the capital, Valentin has cured the boredom of court life with poppy-sap and women, while for Cassius the remedy has been ale and the result much the same. Then an ill-fated duel causes their niece the Empress to send them to Gallica to deal with a problem there, and they find themselves drawn ever more back into the world of Jovani politics: a world their brother banished them from seventeen years earlier.

As Valentin veers from disaster to disaster, always running from his past and a life he would prefer to forget, Cassius is fascinated by a damaged pleasure slave he rescues from a brothel in Sha-Pensei. Valentin's weapon is sly diplomacy, while Cassius prefers the honesty of the sword, but will either be enough to protect Jovan, and themselves?
